7mm Boo Boo sorts things out. 180 grain bullet at 3050fps is fairly unambiguous.

Primary for "deer hunting" is a sako 75 .25-06 running 115 bergers, but that is currently getting an upgrade with some new bits (big thanks to roedale precision!) so while that has been pulled apart I've been using my LR outfit that is 300wm running 210 bergers at a touch over 3000fps, works very very well, here is one from earlier in the year (only pic I have handy of the rifle other than profile pic)

I'll be putting a dedicated thread up for the '06 when it's done. There's also a .338lap hs precision that I used to use for LR but running costs compared to the WM are too high and I actually prefer the 300, nicer rifle all round.

I also use the ol' cz .223 running 50grain Speer tnt's at 3500 fps but that's head/atlas shot only. still killed 100's with it though, not something I would recommend at all though. I'm actually kinda against it, hypocrit I know.
Here's a pic of it passing up a weaner

Nice one Super,...... ax338, you should tell us about your rifles, describe them, loads, scope etc. Mine is just a stock T3 Lite .30-06, only modification I put on was a Limbsaver recoil pad and have an HSS brake to use if I want. Aimpoint red dot 1X scope zeroed at about 50 yards. Use factory Remington Core Lokts, 150g or 180g. No other mods, no bipod...just a knock about very light .30cal hunting rifle. Does the job.

Tikka M65 in .338 Win Mag.
I like using Hornady 225gr SST factory ammo.
      Gives around 2840 fps.
My rifle really likes it and shoots consistent moa when I do my part!

There are some serious amount of coin on some of these kits for deer.

My plan for a deer rifle ( walk about hunting ) was a TC encore or similar in a chambering of 6.5BRM with a fixed 4x scope and a sling. Would be plenty I would think.

6.5 BRM is made from a little sizing and them fire forming.

But then again .... My plan could be squashed. Till I read up on the regs for deer in VIC.

Couple of pix of my M700 SPS in 300WSM. I bought her for sambar when I moved to Vic and it's been a great rifle. Only grassed a handful of sambar with it before I had to move again, but it did the job emphatically. Currently giving her a bit of a makeover, which I will write up on these forums when I'm done.

Prior to moving to Vic I used my 1899 manufactured M96 Swedish Mauser in 6.5x55 for fallow and it's still my favourite rifle.

Just about the best all round deer hunting factory rifle you can get. Just add a good scope and it can handle just about any situation.

I don't hunt stags, I don't give a shit about the so called trophy. I prefer little hinds for food. I don't hunt the things every week despite living in a primo area. I will only go out if I feel like venison to eat. Haven't shot a deer for over a year.....more important things to deal with sometimes. Only recently got a digital camera. Shooting a little deer is no big deal and neither is a stag. Just because you shoot a Sambar stag doesn't make you a hero....all it means is you shot a Sambar stag....big deal.

If you want to come down and go out for a stalk when the weather cools down send a PM, I don't mind.
      Working...
