  • What is it?

    I can't give you a hint because I honestly don't know.
Don't know whare it came from as I only found it when I was going through a box of assorted brass the other day
Case in question is the bottleneck 2nd from right the other 3 for comparison from left to right are 9mm 38super ? 38spl

Rim diameter, thickness and grove diameter are very similar to 9mm

    rim diameter 0.389
    rim thickness 0.049
case body .0389 tapering to 0.385 at the shoulder
    inside neck diameter 0.314
    neck length 0.210
    case length 1.070
Head stamp is not much help with SUPER 38SPL

About as close a match as I could come up with as well. Not convinced it is but I guess if it has been fired in a large chamber it could explain the base and shoulder diameters.
I'm guessing Super did a small rum of brass for something uncommon and they ended up with the 38spl head stamp due to the equipment used.
Doesn't look like the rim has been turned down and the extractor grove look factory formed which makes me think it left the factory with them in place.

And the .317 inside neck points me to 8mm nambu from Japan. Maybe but definitely 8mm

You may be right with the 7.62 Russian Tokarev
0.390rim, 0.380 body 0.370 shoulder 0.970 length not quite exact measurement match but even closer then mauser
Working...
