                .303 P14 (Pattern 1914) has a butt disc.

From what I can see of the reciever and the bolt handle. It's looks the same as the British P14 303 or it maybe a Springfield P17 or a Eddystone P17.

Under the hootchie? I'd guess at a .50cal QCB. Funny thing about all this talk about surplus ww2 stuff, we still use tripods for our fiddies that were made in 1942.

Mate, don't knock the M3 tripod, those things are built like a brick dunny! Built so well apparently they've not worn them out! Before the QCB's I'm pretty sure most of the guns were WW2 manufacture!
I went and looked at the two in my factory and bugger me if I'm lying, both have WW2 rebuild dates. This one's had the original data plate removed and as Rock Island Arsenal rebuild marks.

Holes drilled in the feet show it was probably in the hands of the Israeli's at some point, as this was a standard mod they did.

If only this thing could speak and tell its story.

Thanks for your ppics and service FG.

One thing, at least now, all the misconceptions from years back about the great 5.56mm debate and move to that calibre, has been debunked, and there is no substitution for 7.62 when hard cover and range is required..

                    Thanks,

Are they calling them Minimi's or Maximini? I thought they were marked Maximini? I haven't had the pleasure myself, but I did get to play with a Mk 48 Mod 0. That things got even more rails! There's supposed to be a new version (Mk 48 Mod 1?) that has an improved rate of fire down in the 500's.

On the down side, they're hardly making leaps and bounds in improvements though. Basically they took the original Mini plans out of storage (it was originally conceived as a 7.62) and added a shit load of rails. Most Warsaw pact countries have been fielding sub 8kg .30 LMG's sine the early 70's.
