  • 223 long range twist options

    Hi all,
well I've decided to rebarrel my sako custom 22ppc with a 223 long range barrel.
    its due for it anyway.
    my question is;
if I plan on using it for long range work (600+yds etc.), and rabbits etc. for fun,....... what would be the better twist rate?
    1 in 7?
    8?
    9?
therefore, what would be the ideal projectile weight as well?

1 in 8 stabilises 80 grain Berger projectiles in both T3's that I have experience with

        1:7 Would be the go.
I have also seen people use a 1:6.5 for 90grVLD.

        Long range 223.......
Have you considered the AI version to give it a little extra omphh

          thanks guys.
I did consider it (AI), but wasn't sure if I should bother due to rules in f-class.
not that i'll be doing much f-class,..........but who knows.

No you would be classed as F open then and be up against the bigger better cartridges.

The PPC bolt face is larger than a 223 right?
Dose that mean a new bolt or are you able to sleeve them?

Yes it does, but I will be making a shallow sleeve to press in to the bolt face.
                Easy peasy.
Below is the sako ppc in its custom stock. Should look nice with a stainless 223 barrel.
