You know that moment when the steak is on the grill and your mouth waters in anticipation? Vegans feel the same after mowing the lawn.

With the rolling thunder of a .30 cal Bass Drum

          BTW S12A
          That spot looks familiar.
Pretty sure Ivé seen it in a Utube clip a year or two ago where some guys were shooting a Rem 308 at a Clay over on that slope.
The vid also mentioned that the rifle was for sale at the time too.

          Was that you guys?

          Mick.

          Gday fellas

Nah Mick that wasnt me , this was the first time we have all been out to that property.

i am glad to see so many people with this interest in practical field based long range shooting.
believe it or not there are a lot more of us out there than you would think.
i met the blokes i now shoot with on www.austargets.com .

as a group with a shared interest we need to start helping each other out and getting out there shooting together etc.

i might ask for a section for us in the long range shooting section here, i also suggest checking out these two facebook pages:
          https://www.facebook.com/groups/115380726911/
          https://www.facebook.com/pages/Long-Range-HuntingShooting-Page/415063031842881?fref=ts

word on the street is a couple of big distributors are looking at starting up or hosting some events that will be specific to this style of shooting, hopefully they wont be stuck on a square range .

for now maybe we can think about some ways to get some of you blokes down south shooting together , ie if you have access to a property find the blokes who are keen and meet at a local range first to make sure you are all on the same page

          cheers

          Anthony

          Where are you at Adrian?

Got a rifle for the job?

          Cheers, Mick.

Hi Mick, I'm in Raymond Terrace (don't judge!)

Rifle wise, I don't know if I'd call 223 capable or doable, but with a 1:8 twist heavy barrel and the sightron it should go ok.

        Cheers

M16A4's with standard ball ammo will and have quite consistently have achieved exceptional accuracy out to 800 yd, so I would think anything from the civvies world would be at the very least on par

Yeah this long range stuff is next on my to-do list as well.
        Good fun.
Although it will be quite a while before I can dong gongs at 1000.
I'll give it a crack though.

wont be as long as you think.

last weekend one of the blokes got his longest hit at 650m , then at 1050 in the space of a day. its consistency that takes time !

shot gongs @ 500m no worries, but haven't bothered with further.
whats the most common size gong you guys stick up @ 1000?

Apart from whacking rabbits out to 400m, my only claim to long range fame is getting an equal 3rd in the 300m egg shoot at our range 2 yrs ago with my 22,..........against bench guns etc.
That's all I had while I was there at the time.
        Their faces was priceless.
        errr,............yes,.........was just lucky me thinks.

          ^^^^^^   :P ^^^^^^

Same the last time I took the .22 cal Marauder to Seaham.
I had one of the RO's (a staunch, grumpy old BR, boys club guy) sitting behind me with a spotting scope watching the target of a guy who was busting up their timber target frames (they don't like that much)
He noticed that my muzzle was pointing way too high to be shooting 25 or 50m. (Seaham is an up hill range)
He says to me, "are you shooting that thing at 100"........................"No I'm shooting 200".
So he redirects his scope onto my target & calls the hits at 200m with my .22cal air rifle...........Absolutely stunned him, he was speachless

          Mick.
