I'm fapping (or whatever the kids say these days)!

This thing has PORTAL GEARS! Like a Unimog or Hummer H1. Utterly pornorific!

Cost... well, according to this page (http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1086861_2013-brabus-b63s-is-an-exercise-in-delightful-insanity) on the Brabus tuned version (700hp!) the standard AMG unit is $400,000-$500,000... and the Brabus version "quite a bit more". So yeah, not cheap. Those on a budget might consider the standard 4-wheeled AMG G63 for around $250,000, a trio of Unimog axles at $5K-$20K ea, and a grinder, welder and some extra sheet metal.

Or wait a decade or two for the ADF to offload their 6WD G-wagens!

A Gold Lotto win would be the only way I could afford that kind of vehicle !!!

          Thanks...

Whoever said "Money can't buy you happiness" was a spot on.

Imagine how miserable you would be if you could afford one of these?

You'd probably try to kill yourself, just like the poor depressed driver in the promo, obviously suicidal. :P

Yes, it would be rather awkward on twisty forest tracks. I've spoken to a few owners of 6-wheel Troopy conversions (lazy 3rd axle, admittedly) and they reckon they're not the unstoppable offroad weapons people would think.

None of this stops the big Merc from being completely awesome though. Would make a great tow vehicle, if nothing else.

i notice none of the driving in the clip is done on deep rutts, narrow twisty tracks or boulders. might be fine for a sheik to tool around the desert from one oil well to another but near useless in the bush

i'll keep my dual cab until i can afford and justify a modified truck

Yes, that maybe True but I still want one.

If you can afford the Mercedes all other 4WD are small change to buy and own.

            Thanks...

                Only $500K?
So now the only choice is which 1% of it do I buy.

I had the chance to look and play in one the other weekend. They are quite a trick bit of gear, how reliable they will be long term is unknown...and i suspect that there will be problems.

They were originally designed for the Australian Army, but after they designed them they had interest from the middle east (Dubai) so made some civillian AMG models.

From memory its part of Project Land 121 Phase 3A

I have one of the land rover perentie 6x6's that the g-Wagens are replacing, and the LR is very easy to drive and rides extremely well. The G-Wagen seems to ride a lot beter and I suspect wil be more capable, I just question teh reliability of it long term..especially given that it will have to have a Certain amoutn of 'Local Content; for the ADF (same as the Mogs) and in general its the 'Local Content' that fails.

Can't say it does much for me either, I could think of a lot better things to spend $500k on.

GD308 don't worry, Mercedes are working hard to make things more affordable for everybody. One of the nice features of the CLS63AMG is that it'll turn itself off to save fuel when you stop at lights or get stuck in traffic. Nothing worse than wasting fuel idling your new twin turbo v8.

Had another play in one of these the other day (not the AMG or Brabus version)..they are quite capable and have a realtively good ride. The ADF gets an equivalent of the Professional" model, but with some obvious mods. MB are looking at bringing the Pro Version to Australia with the 4x4 version coming in at around 100k, but of course that all depends if the boys from germany see a market for it.

The one thing I will say is that I would absolutely hate to work on one..the one we looked at (ADF Spec'd one) had pretty much every square centimeter under the bonet used up with something or another..
