  • The ghillie suit

In a previous forum we had quite a lengthy debate about the use and mis-use of ghillie suits. I wore two different designs over the past deer season and both worked well, with the key "spook' factor being movement ahead of anything else.

Here are some pix of the latest design...

Close both of you but computer sez "nooooo".

I'll circle it later in the day. Playing hide and seek from this position no one could see me until they walked past and saw my boots. The children didn't see me until a big furry grass monster emerged at their feet.

I put a lot of R&D in to mine.
but ended up removing the sleeves from halfway between the shoulder and the elbow.
it has a mix of both real and synthetic grasses etc, but nothing attached to the front chest area.

I've hunted in them several times, sometimes successful, sometimes not.
it doesn't matter what you wear, if you're seen moving, you're buggered.
hence I hardly wear it anymore.
and unless you cover everything else up like the rifle/scope/hands (which just get in the way or the action etc), they'll still spot you.
      humans wont, but animals will.
nothing worse than trying to call up a fox and a young steer is trying to sniff your head.

Send-it, your camo suit looks like my neighbours yard at times !!!

Your correct there about the clothing your wearing and movement.
Some animals see in shades of black and white, some detect different spectrum's of light.

Another problem is also scent and smell, people stink to most animals.

They smell you long before they see you, mainly because of the dairy products we eat.

        Thanks...

In the Spirit of Giving then (Mods grateful the indulgence).... a ghillie suit is not just for Mall Ninjas and barbed wire fences.

                Gentlemen - find the shooter.

                  Awww man...
That photo would have been awesome without all that camo paint and scrim/rags...

Pity i came late to the guess-where-you-were-in-the-photo-party, i guessed your position but it would have be a lucky guess as i picked it based on the dark spot being your rifle not your head. oh well.
