  • Licence/PTA application monitoring thread

    This isn't my first rifle.
I've put through a PTA on two rifles. Usually they get approved withing three days of applying online, however this time I'm into my second week. I rang up Weapons Licencing and they said they were still processing them.

Has anyone else been having this issue recently? Or is it normal for you to wait weeks. (note this will be my 13th and 14th rifle).
    Cheers.
    Stew.

Hi, good idea to get a rough time frame.

    State: QLD
    Licence/PTA category: A/B (new licence)
    Date Applied: 25/06/2013 online
Date any Email received: 25/06/13 auto reply, 06/08/2013 (don't contact us until you have waited 12 weeks reply), 25/09/2013 (We are so busy but majority of applications are processed in 12 weeks reply)
Date any contact made: 04/08/2013 (email), 17/09/2013 (phone, can't give you any indication whatsoever on a wait time), 25/09/13 (email)
Date received: Still waiting..(14 weeks so far)

Had heard that WLB had gotten things sorted but doesn't appear to be so in my case.

Hey mate, back when they were experiencing major delays when I got my QLD licence the thing to do was email a complaint to the QLD police minister, just outline the amount that you paid and how it is unacceptable that they cannot process applications in a timely manor.

you'd be surprised at how reactive Government departments are to complaints, they have to respond within 14 days of receiving correspondence, sometimes its the only way to get things sorted.

my better half did this after waiting three months, had her licence within two weeks of contacting the police minister.

good luck and I hope you can get out shooting soon.

    Note to all.

By all means use the format proposed by the OP. A simple log of timeframes for application processing is a worthwhile thing to keep.

Please do us all a favour and keep the thread clean by doing these things...
    - don't post again when your licence comes through. Simply update your original post with the date and leave it at that.
    - don't post opinions on the performance of the Weapons Licencing / Firearms Registry office in your state. Stick with the facts and you won't get any grief from me. Start slagging the public servants off, no matter how much you think they may deserve it and you will find yourself sin-binned and your comments deleted.

    Cheers,

    Adam.

Called up and apparently the FAR are back logged with a flood of licence applications and that if I don't receive it in another 4 - 5 weeks to call and check again. Is it seriously acceptable to wait 70 days before following up again ?!?!?

          - Presented identification on 1/10/2013.
          - Called 3/10/2013 to check the police station had sent WLB the ID check confirmation (they get sent a "task" email from WLB, which they're supposed to send back to let WLB you've been in).
          - Police station had not sent back a "task completed" email, thankfully WLB said I could scan and email a copy of the receipt I'd received at the police station (make sure you take in a copy of the identification check email!) which I did immediately (3/10/2013).
          - Called WLB again Wednesday 9/10/2013, they confirmed the license had been approved on the 3rd or 4th and should be printed Thursday 10/10/2013 at the latest.

          Now for my 2 PTAs......

Minors Permit for my son came through super quick and without any problems at all. To be honest I was pretty impressed as I thought it would take a couple of months.

              In regards to NSW PTA's.....

I cant complain, they seem to turn up in less than 2 weeks, and every time I ring they are helpful.
I wish we had online PTA's, but I guess they do as well.
I think the limiting thing is Aust Post.

Last lot came yesterday, applied for them 14 days prior
